Product Spotlight: The Many Uses of Specialty Anhydrides
Specialty anhydrides are a staple raw material in many areas of chemical manufacturing and industrial applications ranging from epoxy curing to plasticizers. These versatile curing agents are highly valued as they impart various formulations with high chemical and thermal resistance, among many other properties.
Broadview Technologies has developed a wide range of different specialty anhydrides for diverse applications beyond just traditional epoxy curing. We offer products that are not only high performing, but also cost effective, with long pot lives and excellent stability.
Unsaturated Anhydrides
Unsaturated anhydrides are best suited to electrical applications, with excellent properties for the potting and encapsulation of ignition coils, high-voltage transformers, PCB manufacturing, and related uses. They are unequaled in their versatility for curing as well, making them especially valued in epoxy filament winding, pultrusion, and resin infusion.
Saturated Anhydrides
Specialty saturated anhydrides have proven to be especially effective in outdoor applications where moisture resistance and UV stability are a must. LED displays, clear outdoor coatings, and electrical insulators for transmission equipment all benefit from these anhydrides. Broadview’s products also offer crisp, clean color and color retention for displays and coatings, even when exposed to outdoor conditions.
Polyanhydrides
Polyanhydrides offer both high versatility and toughness, making them excellent for flexible PCBs and films, and high-performance electrical potting. Broadview’s products also exhibit excellent thermal shock resistance, even after high-temperature heat age, as well as noise-dampening properties akin to materials such as rubber. In addition, polyanhydrides have proven useful in package adhesives, epoxy transfer molding, electrostatic spray coatings, and paper and glass laminates, just to name a few of their many applications.
Dianhydrides
Dianhydrides are most commonly used as a thermal curative for epoxy resins, as they form a highly crosslinked network that imparts protective properties to these coatings and adhesives. However, they also can be used in a wide range of powder coatings, electrical castings, and more due to their excellent abrasion resistance and heat resistance.
